@@goosewhisperer6275 He became lead singer 1977 until 1985. He left the group, semi-retired. He had an amazing solo career. Journey created "Trial by Fire" in 1996 but because Steve couldn't tour the album never really was a success.

Steve Perry has the absolute beautiful singing voice of any guy that I've ever heard. Heard alot in my time. I'm 59 y/o now & grew up listening to Journey, as well as all the other awesome rock bands. Yes, I to think that his voice is what made them so loved by all but the band is awesome too! They in turn gave us one of the most Phenomenal rock band ever.. I will always Love this band.♥️

Same! These collective 5 musicians were the best incarnation of Journey. Smith played rock drums far better than he does now though. He was loose and fluid back then. He’s too jazzy, has upright posture and is too calculated and particular these days. Deen plays in the proper style and can sing backup quite well (personal problems notwithstanding!)
That's just bands being bands. Outside of Tom Petty and the British bands, bands didn't stay together long before they were at each other's throats. and didn't last long.

Still listening in 2023 at 62 years old 45 years of Journey! Still the best music never gets old. Steve's voice still gives me chills. There will NEVER be another Steve Perry. Even the album Traces (although more mellow) his music lives on.❤️🤗🎵🎸🎶❤️🎸

Drummers: Do yourself a favor and watch the drum solo at 50% playback speed. You'll catch a lot of things you'll miss at full speed. Smith is very talented. My favorite drummer.

This drum solo really doesn't get the credit it deserves, IMO one of the all time great drum solos and the drum sounds for 1981 is incredible. Whoever mixed this concert deserved a grammy.
steve perry himself did the mixing back in 2004-2005 with help by a few others (not journey)

I was Fortunate to see Journeys Escape, Frontiers and Raised on Radio Tours. Back in the 80’s.
Getting to Steve Smith playing with the band again a couple years ago was like stepping back in time.
Loved every Journey Concert I’ve been to from 82 to the present.
Journey was one of the greatest live shows ever the sound is mixed so very well.
Steve Smith and Neil Peart were friends. Even took lessons from same teacher well into their careers. Never stopped improving.

Steve was the reason I started playing drums 40 years ago. I had this concert on VHS tape and never forgot this solo. His Sonor's sound amazing and one day I will have a Sonor set. So many great bands in that period of time.

Child of the 80's here (graduated HS in '85). I would have bet that I knew all the Journey songs. Had RUclips on autoplay, and this gem came up. I've never heard this song. What a thrill to find a new (to me) Journey song here in 2022! Takes me right back to those days. Steve Perry is an amazing voice.
There's been a bug concerning this specific video since a month or two: unlike the name displayed on the video, this is not _Where Were You_ from 1980 Departure that you've listened to, but _Mother, Father_ from 1981 Escape.
